Welcome to California School Finder

A place for infromation about California Schools

Governor's Educational Principles

  • Safeguard the State Board of Education adopted academic content standards as the foundation of California's K-12 educational system; the same standards for all children.

  • Ensure that curriculum is rigorous, standards-aligned, and research-based utilizing State Board adopted materials or standards-aligned textbooks in grades 9 to 12, to prepare children for college or the workforce.

Ensure the availability of State Board of Education adopted instructional materials for Kindergarten and grades 1 to 8 and locally adopted standards-aligned instructional materials in grades 9 to 12.

  • Support professional development for teachers on the adopted instructional materials that are used in the classroom.

  • Maintain the assessment and accountability system (including STAR, EAP, CAHSEE, and CELDT).

  • Ensure that the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and all teacher training institutes use State Board adopted standards as the basis for determining the subject matter competency of teacher candidates.

  • Strengthen coordination between K-12 and higher education.

Educational Resources

Governor Schwarzenegger launched the School Finder Web site as a portal to connect California’s students and parents to our state’s educational resources, initiatives and information.

The joint efforts of the Governor’s Office of the Secretary of Education, the Office of the Chief Information Officer and the California Department of Education in developing this portal will provide Californians with public education policy updates and links to important information about education in the Golden State.

magnifying glass Find and Compare Schools

One of the main features of this Web site is the SchoolFinder application, which helps parents locate schools near their homes, compare school performance and financial data and select the best schools for their children. In addition, the State is working to develop a forum for parents, teachers and students to provide feedback regarding their schools.

You can use this site to:

  • Keep up to date on Governor's Educational policies

This site serves the public in providing information on policies established for Caifornia Education. Come back to this site often for updates made to California policy.

  • Find Schools:

Enter an address, city or zip code for where you’d like to search. Use the “school type” menu to narrow your search to the schools which interest you. Once you see results, you can dive into more details by clicking the school's name.

  • Compare Schools:
